Chauncey Amos Geer, U.S. Marine.  Jan. 14,1899 - Nov. 15,1981

Chauncey was "the first one to enlist for service in the first World War from the Town of Griswold on April 6, 1917.  
He was with the 5th Reg. U.S. Marines. . .  In a letter Ma (our grandmother [Sarah Geer Gill]) wrote to [her daughter] 
Sarah Robinson, there is this line- 'Chance is preserved in alcohol and may perhaps outlive us all...'"--notes from Merrill Goodenough Resch

However, the "date of Registration" on his card shows Sep. 12, 1918 (see next image)
